OLD NEWS 9.15.01 Day 4 of the disaster. I went over to Grant to get a soda, sat down and watched the news with Steve and Jason. The mood was a lot different in that room. Usually, everyone is chilin watching sports center, going on with everyday life. Tonight things were very sullen, very serious. Everyone watched the new videos from the scene of the WTC, wondering what's going to happen next. News reports say that Afgan's people are fleeing their country, and Bush is telling the military to "be ready". I didn't even notice that the Commandant Gen. Olsen was walk through Grant. He patted my shoulder with a look on his face saying "things will be okay. You'll get your chance." I'm sure he knew what was on all of our minds. I can't wait to graduate and get out there. 9.14.01 Finally told my side of the story. 9.11.01 This day is the first time I've really encountered a threat to our nation. I was only in 4th grade when we entered Desert Storm, so I did realize the significance of sending our troops to another nation to fight. Now I am here, and we're facing an attack on our country's soil, an attack worse than Pearl Harbor in my eyes. The attack on Pearl Harbor was a strategic attack during an international war. The attack on the pentagon and the World Trade Center was an act of terrorism involving thousands and thousands of innocent civilians. If we entered World War II as a response to Pearl Harbor, a military installation, it is absolutely possible that we shall fight back and punish whoever is responsible for the death in this country. Before I came to this school, I hoped that we would not enter any wars during my time in the military. I had convinced myself that the world is in a state of peace, and I would not have to risk my life for my country. Each day that I live and learn here at West Point I realize just how active our army is in keeping the peace around the world. Now I know that some day I will be involved in some type of conflict. The threat is out there, and I do not want that threat to be there in the future. Now I am prepared to fight for the nation not only because I attended my first class here at the academy, binding myself to the profession of arms, but because I do not want to be working in an office some day in the future knowing that the people responsible for bringing down the World Trade Center have not been punished, and are planning to strike again because they think they can get away with it. I look forward to the day that I begin working with soldiers to protect everything i had lived for in my life. Hopefully those that I shall work with have the same desires as well. 9.11.01 yikes 9.08.01 Mike is in Ny for the weekend! 9.03.01 Labor day weekend at school... OPPS are sooo good... i like being a cow. 8.27.01 Deng, it's been a while. my bad. Anyways, rite now i'm at school if you didn't know. I kicked off the school year last weekend "accepting" my friend's lil brother who's a plebe now... -This past weekend we HAD to celebrate my other friend Eric's 20th bday in the city. Highlights of the night: met these girls Sandy and Jen at a bar...they renewed my faith in women, who said i was a nice guy, and nice guys are hard to come by.... THERE'S HOPE YET! Eric passed out by 1am thanks to the help of everyone in the group... Francis got kicked out by a dirty old arcade owner, and our group was infilitrated by some dude no one new and wore tight leather pants and combat boots while in the city(yikes!)... what a weekend... .... Happy 20th Eric (24 AUG) and Anna (28 AUG)!! -I can't wait til mike comes up here so we can party in da city! 7.25.01 Right now if you didn't know already, i'm over in Ft.
